Dr. Matthew “Matt” Walker, Program Officer, oversees the organization’s global grantmaking portfolio, guiding the development, and implementation of all programmatic work. In this role, he ensures quality and accountability across the portfolio while cultivating and strengthening intentional relationships with current and prospective grantees.

Biography

Matt is an accomplished public health professional with extensive experience in research project management, tobacco science, and program evaluation across international nonprofit, state, and federal sectors. Prior to joining Global Action, he spent nearly 14 years with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, including several years with the Center for Tobacco Products where his research helped shape national smoking prevention efforts.

Before his tenure at the FDA, Matt served as a Deputy Director for SAMHSA and managed Children’s Health Services for the Georgia Department of Public Health. Earlier in his career, he spent four years living and working in Central America, leading health outreach programs for underserved populations.

Matt holds a Doctorate in public health leadership from Georgia Southern University and a Master’s degree in International Public Health from the University of Sydney.
